Now That’s Encouraging
No – I did not go on vacation. I did have some very heavily scheduled work days that took me out of my regular schedule and away from my running plan, or at least gave me an excuse to get away from my running plan.
I went to Holleran Rock again today. It is a great place to just sit and reflect and think about life. I probably spent more time there then running today. It is nice to just spend time in thought in order to figure things out and move through some of the blurriness of the world.
I ran with a friend today and that is something that I usually don't do. Todd is one of my partners in the super goal process. It was interesting to chat as we ran. Both of us had things on our mind that we are contemplating and of course we have the common thread of working on huge goals together. Both of us were able to learn from each other as we ran around and sat on Holleran Rock. Each of us has a different perspective and are able to see things that the other is not. It was extremely helpful to me to run my thoughts past Todd and gain his perspective. It led to some great thoughts and personal inspiration.
Not only did we notice that it was good to talk about life, we also noticed that the miles just seemed to drift by effortlessly as we talked. Isn't it great to have a companion that can support and lift as we go through life.
I think about the way that I communicate with others a lot. I have found that the easiest way to recognize people is for the negative things that they do. It seems we are all very well trained at pointing out someone's flaws.
It is much more difficult to see the positive things that people are doing. We are not well trained at giving authentic compliments and noticing when others are doing a good job. Even when we notice, we often hesitate to comment.
I have a goal to use language that uplifts, encourages and compliments others. I found that as I focus on this goal and truly seek to build others, I am happier. This is an interesting correlation, because my efforts do not really have anything to do with me, yet somehow, when I treat others this way, it affects my personal happiness.
When was the last time you built somebody up? Has it been too long? I invite you to find somebody you care about today and tell them how you really feel about them. I am sure they probably already know how you feel, but they will feel better when they hear you say and you will too.
See you on the road!
Andrew
