I have some friends who decided that they were going to get together and form a band. three of the five members are over 50 years old, the other two are just about there. None of them have been in a band since their high school days.
We all thought it was funny and cool when they started, but I don't think many of us thought they would stick with it. They have been at it now for over a year and they just keep getting better and better. It is fun to watch them developing their talents.
Here is a video from one of their recent concerts. The great thing about this video is that they are fronted by a 12 year old girl who sounds amazing. It is fun to watch, I hope you will give it a look. You will most likely need a Facebook account to view it.
Individual Talents
Watching them, I began to think about the many aspirations I have felt during my lifetime. I normally do something about it when I feel so inspired. I am glad I can say that. I am chasing a few dreams myself right now and it is a blast.
I notice though that many of us give up on our aspirations when we become a card carrying member of the workforce, and/or when we start our own families. These activities generally take a lot from us and often leave us too tired to pursue the development of individual talents.
The guitar gets put down, the dream of flying or parachuting gets put off, the thought of seeing the world is kept for another day, we quit painting and writing poems, songs are left unsung and slowly but surely we mold into someone we barely know anymore. Is it anyone wonder that as we age, many feel a little burnt out.
It Just Takes A little Time
My friend Todd, who is playing the guitar in the video said this about their experience as a band, "we are just a bunch of old hacks having a ball with a few spare minutes a week… something that never happened during the past couple of decades."
I know we get busy with life, and that there are responsibilities that need to be met. It is natural that we will have less time to develop our individual talents, but that does not mean that we should not pursue them. Life is best when we are actively pursuing our dreams.
One part of the video that stands out for me is the smile on Todd's face when Sophie really goes for it in the song. He has a great smile, but it is rarely that big. Every time I watch it, I feel his passion and love for what he is doing. It inspires me to do what makes me feel that way.
Tomorrow Never Comes
Don't wait for tomorrow to reach for your dreams. It is always a day away and it never comes. Sit down for a minute and think about what you are missing. There is way to add that into your life, you just have to learn to live on purpose. You can do it. I know you can. Go out and make them a reality, and don't forget to send me a video of you in action so I can see you smiling face. I don't want to miss that.
