Wow! The past nine weeks were amazing. I ran from one place to the next and mixed all of my running with a lot of life. I feel refreshed this morning and anxious to take things to the next level.
Despite the busy nature of life, I somehow feel like there is a new beginning for me just waiting to happen. I am finishing up some major projects and getting ready to launch into some new ones. I feel like there are some amazing experiences that are just about to begin, and I do not even know about them yet. That makes life exciting and interesting. I am ready to go.
Staying Aligned
I sat down yesterday to review the goals I set for myself at the beginning of the year. I enjoy this exercise. It helps me either recommit to, or let go of the goals I set at the beginning of the year.
There were a couple that I let go. That was difficult for me to do in the past, but now I understand that it is very easy to commit to things in the moment that don't make sense later on. There is no sense in continuing the pursuit of an objective that no longer meets our needs.
There were a couple of more that I still want to do. I need to get started on them because time is passing by. Before I know it, it will be time to explore what I will become next year.
The Aloha Spirit
Last August, Stacy and I went to Hawaii to celebrate our 20th anniversary. There is a very calm and peaceful feeling in Hawaii. Nobody there is in too big of a hurry. Life happens at a different pace. I love connecting to that spirit of Aloha.
While we were there, we took a surfing lesson. It was something that we had never done before. Prior to arriving in Hawaii, we discovered yoga. Our yoga experiences prepared us to surf. The moving and balance postures were very similar for what we needed on the surf board. As a result, it was a very enjoyable experience for us and we were surprised at how easy we picked it up.
One of my goals this year is to really learn how to surf. I have lived in California for most of my 43 years on the planet, but for some reason, I just haven't had the desire to do it before now. I am running out of summer, but I am going to make it happen. This Saturday, I am taking my boys to the beach and the adventure will begin.
Surfing is a great way to feel the rhythm of nature and to stay connected to who I really am. I am looking forward to the moments I will take during the rest of this year to pause and enjoy the beautiful world in which we live.
Connecting The Dots
How are you doing on your annual goals? When was the last time you visited them? Which ones do you need to let go? Which ones require your immediate attention? Don't just sit there thinking that life is too busy. It is too busy, but that is no excuse to give all you have to areas that will not bring you satisfaction. If you want something different, then you are going to have to move toward it.
The way to happiness is to be anxiously engaged in those things that will help you become your best. We must not allow ourselves to be constantly doing – we must also allow ourselves moments to be.
