What Music Inspires You?

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. Berthold Auerbach

I love music. It enriches my silent moments and enlightens my thinking. I am not just inspired by one particular style of music, there are many genres that stir my soul. The warm and gentle magic of a melody can make almost any situation more meaningful to me. I have soundtracks for from many moments of my life that I replay when I need a lift. I can't imagine living without it.

I love discovering new songs. I also love it when people share new songs with me. This week, my friend Ross Stokes introduced me to the music of Laliya, a truly unique and transcendent auditory experience. Their music, is very difficult to describe. Their website says that it is "an instrumental hybrid of new acoustic and subtle world fusion, creating an atmospheric soundscape using instruments of old in a modern and exciting way. This has been enhanced through the use of a technique known as "two hand tapping" on the Dulcimer combined with rhythmic and percussive beats of the Djembe." That is quite a definition, so I embedded a sample at the begging of the post so you could sample their for your self. Give it a listen, it will make you happy.

Musical Impacts

Most people enjoy music, yet very few understand the vast impact it has on our everyday mental, physical and spiritual health. Researchers who have studied its impact have discovered some startling facts. For instance, music creates changes in metabolism, circulation, blood volume, pulse, blood pressure and in our moods. In 1948, a researcher named Doris Soibelman, published a book called Therapeutic and Industrial Uses of Music. In her book, she claims that nearly every organ in the body responds to music. I know that this is true in my case.

Music can compel us to laugh, to cry, to become angry, and even to worship God. It can calm us or whip us into an emotional foot-stomping frenzy. One of the effects I enjoy most about music is that when "our song" comes on the radio, we become lost in the memories so closely associated with it. A song can instantly and vividly take us back in time. We don't even need to hear the whole song. Sometimes the title is enough to take us back.

What Music Inspires You?

Good music produces a dynamic impact on our everyday lives. In many ways it helps us stay in tune mentally, physically and spiritually. What songs are your favorites? Which ones inspire you to greatness? How much of an impact does music have on your life? Are your favorite life moments connected with your favorite songs? I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
