My Fuel Belt
I think I have hit the wall. This doesn't worry me at all, because I knew it was coming.
What do I mean by hitting the wall? Plainly stated, the excitement of doing something new and outstanding has worn off and now I am in what I call the "working phase". This is not to be confused with the "suffering phase" though they are both very closely related.
The working phase drags on. One day blurs into the next day and it seems like I am always working. I go to sleep having done more than I have done in a day in a long time, only to wake up and discover that there is even more to do today.
Fortunately we are not alone in our journey and there is usually someone along the way to pick us up. I run on the road. Often times there are cars zooming past me at 60 or 70 miles an hour. It is a small two lane highway and I an constantly watching the cars to make sure that they see me. As some cars approach, I can tell that they have not spotted me and so I wave at them to wake them up. Other cars approach and gently veer away from me and wave, letting me know they have seen me. I love it when this happens because the people seem to be cheering me on. They are aware of me and they notice me along the road.
Some people seem to do everything the can to avoid seeing me. Even when I wave they turn away and pretend that I am not there. There are too many people like this.
Fortunately we do not have to rely on the recognition of others to survive. There are things we can do on our own to gain the nourishment we need.
I thought about this on my run this morning. When I run I wear a device called Fuel Belt. For more information, you can go to http://www.fuelbelt.com/. My Fuel Belt is a hydration system designed for long distant runners. I hardly notice I have it on, and I can carry 36 fluid ounces.
I carry two types of liquids. I carry about 18 ounces of water and 18 ounces of Accelerade. Accelerade is designed to provide rapid hydration. It is also designed to re-energize my muscles and help my muscles recover faster after exercising. I carry the water to quench my thirst. Water taste better than just about anything when I am thirsty.
I wondered today while I was running about how I replenish my daily needs. I understand how important it is to stay hydrated while I am running. Do I understand that I have the same need in all other areas of my life. If I don't hydrate myself properly while running I could die. Do I understand the same danger exists in all aspects of my life?
I am made up of many individual parts. I have a social side, a physical side, an emotional side, a spiritual side, a mental side, a family side and many other sides that make up the complete me. I am sure you are the same in some aspects and very different in others.
I have discovered that in order for me to get the nourishment I need in each of these areas, I need to know what I want and have a development plan for each area. It is easy for me to find what I need physically because I can look on line and find what others are doing. I can do this with other parts of my life too, but others areas are more individual and require thought on my part.
No matter the process, it is the same for all areas of my life. I have to know what I want and then make decisions on how to get it. If I carry my fuel belt empty or if I don't drink the liquid then it does me no good. I must act in order to receive the benefits of the decisions I made.
Each day I plan my day with the idea that each item I do will be like drinking from my Fuel Belt. I have designed my day to strengthen me and to help me reach my goals.
A successful day to me means that I drank often from the from those activities that I have designed to replenish my energy and accelerate my progress.
See you on the road!
Andrew
