18 Years! Today I celebrate with my wife 18 years of being married. It is amazing how fast the time goes by. I am thankful to be married to an outstanding woman. Stacy is the reason I have had any success in this life. She supports me and uplifts me and cheers me on.

I had an interesting thought this morning as I was running. Yes, I went running on my anniversary, but I was back before Stacy woke up. Normally we go somewhere for our anniversary but this time we are at home awaiting a special arrival. For those of you that don't know, we are expecting our 7th child. We don't know what we are having and we have three boys and three girls, so this will be the tie breaker. We are excited. The baby will be born in the next couple of weeks.

Any way back to this morning's run. I thought about my marriage and about the many times I spend looking forward. By this I mean, I look forward to this new baby being born. I look forward to graduations and special birthdays and time when we can travel on our anniversary. I don't do this as much as I use to do it, but I still find myself thinking about the future.

I think this is a good characteristic to develop, but I also think we need to learn to be more in the moment. I don't know what your beliefs are, but I believe that that we are eternal beings meaning that we have always existed and that we will always exist. We are going to be around, in some form, forever.

A constant focus on the future somehow misses the point. It takes us out of the moment and an creates and artificial end or terminating point. Many people live their lives with the thought, "I will be happy when…" But that time never comes. Since we will be around forever, there really is no future more important than now. We need to be happy now and enjoy the present.

Today is our day. It is our time to do all that we can do and be the best we can be. If we really want to have the best future then it starts right now. I have learned that when I am in the moment, life is good. I have my most anxious moments when I focus too much on the past or the future.

My dad always said -

Yesterday is a canceled check – Tomorrow is a promissory note – Today is the only cash you have – Spend it wisely :)

See you along the road!

Andrew
